Data and privacy

What Crossfeed stores, where it stores it, and how to move or delete it.

The dashboard keeps your data in your browser. With settings sync on, it also keeps a copy of your settings, layouts, and stream history on Crossfeed's server, so every browser you sign in to shows the same dashboard.

Clearing site data for app.crossfeed.live signs you out and resets everything above in that browser. With sync on, the synced data comes back the next time you sign in.

Settings sync

Settings sync is on by default for accounts with access to Crossfeed. It keeps one copy of your synced data per Crossfeed account on Crossfeed's server.

  • The dashboard downloads your synced data when it opens and when you return to its tab.
  • It uploads a change about three seconds after you make it.
  • A new browser with no settings of its own takes the synced settings. A browser that already has settings asks which version to keep on its first sync.
  • When two browsers change settings before either one syncs, the dashboard shows Settings changed in another browser. Select Keep this browser's to replace the synced settings, or Use the synced settings to replace this browser's.
  • Stream history merges without asking. Every stream from every browser is kept, up to the last 100.

To turn sync off in one browser, open Settings, select Data, and turn off Sync settings across browsers. The synced copy stays on the server. To delete it, select Delete synced data. Crossfeed asks you to confirm, deletes your synced settings, layouts, stream history, and overlay source entry from its server, and turns sync off in that browser. Other browsers with sync on upload their copy again.

Stored on Crossfeed's server

Crossfeed keeps a small database on Cloudflare D1.

DataContents
Your Crossfeed accountAn account ID, plus your DID, your email, or both
Your subscriptionThe Stripe customer and subscription, the billing period, and whether it renews or ends
Synced dataSettings, layouts, and stream history while settings sync is on
The overlay source entryYour account ID, an ID derived from your overlay link, your Twitch user ID, and your DID

Delete synced data in the Data section of Settings deletes your synced data and the overlay source entry.

Crossfeed's server uses the overlay source entry to keep your overlays live while the dashboard is closed. Turning off Keep overlays live when the dashboard is closed keeps the entry and stops the events.

Sent to other services

  • Twitch and stream.place receive the actions you take, such as messages, moderation, and stream info.
  • Crossfeed's server stores your synced settings, layouts, and stream history while settings sync is on.
  • Crossfeed's server exchanges the Twitch sign-in code for an access token and refreshes it. It doesn't store the token.
  • Public AT Protocol services receive lookups for pronouns, Linkat links, and Teal.fm status when you open a stream.place user card. Turn this off in Settings, under Chatter profiles in the Appearance section.
  • Crossfeed's server sends bot replies and timer messages to Twitch and stream.place as the Crossfeed bot. It doesn't store them.
  • The overlay relay at overlay.crossfeed.live receives your chat messages, moderation removals, and alerts while you have overlay links. With the dashboard closed, it reads them from Twitch EventSub and stream.place. It keeps your overlay style and the last 50 chat messages so a browser source that reconnects shows recent chat. Replace links deletes both.
  • Cloudflare's logs for Crossfeed's server receive error reports from the dashboard. A report holds the error message, its stack trace, and the page path. The dashboard sends at most five reports per page load, and none from the demo.
  • Email to contact@crossfeed.live opens when you select Feedback in the dashboard header. The draft includes the page path and your browser's user agent, and nothing is sent until you send the mail.

Export and import

  1. Open Settings and select Data.
  2. Select Export settings to download a JSON file with your layouts, color mode, stream history, shortcuts, chat commands, bot commands and timers, overlay styles, and settings.
  3. In another browser, select Import settings and choose the file.

Exports never include sign-ins or the OBS password. Connect your accounts again in the new browser. Exports include the overlay link key, so your overlay links keep working after an import. Keep the file private for that reason.

Delete stream history

Select Delete stream history in the Data section of Settings. Crossfeed asks you to confirm first. With sync on, the history is deleted from the server and from every synced browser too. It can't be restored afterwards unless you exported it.
