Chat and moderation

Read and send chat on both platforms, and moderate each message where it came from.

The Chat module shows messages from Twitch and stream.place in one feed. A small square next to each name shows its platform: purple for Twitch and pink for stream.place.

Filter the feed

Use the All, Twitch, and stream.place switch above the feed to show one platform or both.

Send a message

The composer has two send keys, T for Twitch and S for stream.place. Both are on by default. Turn one off to send only to the other platform.

Type @ to complete the name of a recent chatter from either platform.

A message you send to both platforms shows up once, with both platform squares next to it.

Emotes

Emotes from Twitch, 7TV, BTTV, and FFZ render in messages from both platforms, and in the quoted message above a reply. Hover an emote to see its name and where it comes from.

  • Global emotes from all four services always load. Your channel's own emotes load once Twitch is connected, since 7TV, BTTV, and FFZ look up channels by Twitch account.
  • Zero-width 7TV emotes, such as hats and effects, sit on top of the emote before them.
  • With reduced motion turned on in your system settings, animated Twitch and 7TV emotes show a still frame. BTTV and FFZ offer no still frame, so their animated emotes keep moving.
  • Messages that arrive before the emote lists finish loading update once they're in.

Reply to a message

Hover a message and press R, or select R on the message. This works on your own messages too. A reply always goes to the platform the original message came from, whatever the send keys are set to. Press Esc to cancel the reply.

Mentions

Select an @ mention in a message to open the user card of the person it names, on the platform the message came from. Crossfeed looks up people who haven't chatted yet, so their card takes a moment to fill in.

Pin a message

Hover a message and select P to pin it to the top of chat on the platform it came from. Each platform holds one pinned message. When a message is already pinned there, Crossfeed asks you to confirm before it replaces the pin. A message you sent to both platforms at once has no P key.

The pin banner at the top of the Chat module shows the pinned message for each platform. It names who pinned the message when someone other than you did, and counts down the time left when the pin has an end time. The All, Twitch, and stream.place switch filters the banner too.

To unpin, select Unpin on the banner, or P on the pinned message, and confirm. The message leaves the top of chat for everyone.

  • Twitch: A pin stays until you unpin it or the stream ends. Crossfeed checks the pinned message every 30 seconds, so a pin a moderator sets shows up within that time.
  • stream.place: A pin is a place.stream.chat.pinnedRecord record in your AT Protocol account. A pin set from stream.place shows up right away.

When you delete a pinned message, or ban or time out its author, the banner hides it.

Moderate

Hover a message to show its moderation keys:

  • D deletes the message.
  • T times out the author. Choose 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week, and add a reason if you like.
  • B bans the author.

Each action runs on the platform the message came from, and Crossfeed asks you to confirm first. Press Enter to confirm or Esc to cancel.

Moderation on stream.place

stream.place moderation uses records in your AT Protocol account:

  • A ban creates a block from your AT Protocol account. The block also applies across Bluesky.
  • A timeout creates a block and removes it when the time is up. When Crossfeed is closed at that moment, it removes the block the next time you open it.
  • A delete hides the message with a place.stream.chat.gate record.

User cards

stream.place chatters appear under their Bluesky display name, and chatters without one appear under their handle. Select a name to open its user card, which shows the avatar and the handle. On stream.place, the avatar comes from the chatter's Bluesky profile. Cards also show when the chatter followed you and, on Twitch, their sub tenure. On stream.place, cards can also show pronouns, Linkat links, and what the chatter is listening to on Teal.fm. Turn these lookups off in Settings, under Chatter profiles in the Appearance section.

Pop out the chat

Open the command palette and select Pop out chat to open the chat in its own window. The window connects on its own, so it keeps working when you move it to another screen.
