Restream to Twitch

Send one stream from OBS to stream.place and let stream.place forward it to Twitch.

stream.place can forward your stream to other platforms. Each destination is a restream target, which stream.place stores on its own server. With Twitch as a target, OBS only needs one output.

Add Twitch as a target

Create the restream target on stream.place. You need your Twitch stream key from the Twitch creator dashboard under Settings, Stream.

After you add the target, Crossfeed lists it in the Health module the next time it loads your targets. When Crossfeed can't reach your targets on stream.place, the Twitch row in the Health module shows Couldn't load restream targets from stream.place.

Turn a target on or off

The Health module shows each restream target with a switch.

  • Turn a target on before you go live to include it in the next stream.
  • Turn a target off to stop forwarding. While you're live, viewers on that platform lose the stream right away, so Crossfeed asks you to confirm first.

Set what restreams at Go live

The Go live section of Settings has a Restream at Go live switch per target. Turn one on to check that target in the go-live dialog every time, or off to leave it unchecked. A target you haven't set follows stream.place: it's checked when it was on at stream.place before Crossfeed held it. The same section has Go live on stream.place, which sets whether the go-live dialog starts the stream.place livestream.

Hold restreams until you go live

stream.place starts forwarding to every target that's on as soon as OBS starts sending video. While Crossfeed is open, it keeps your targets off on stream.place until you select Go live, so Twitch stays dark while you set up.

The go-live dialog asks which targets to restream to, with one Restream to checkbox per target. The switches in the Health module show the same choice, marked as starting at Go live. When you select Go live, Crossfeed turns the checked targets on. The checkboxes start from your defaults in Settings, and a change during this visit lasts until you reload the dashboard.

When your stream starts on stream.place without the Go live button, for example from the stream.place website, Crossfeed stops holding and leaves your targets as they are. When you open the dashboard while OBS is already sending and a target is on, Crossfeed leaves that restream running and skips the hold. In that case the checkboxes and switches turn targets on or off right away.

While Twitch is live, Crossfeed treats Twitch as streamed directly, for example through a second OBS output, in three cases: OBS sends its stream to Twitch, you have no Twitch target, or every Twitch target has been off for five minutes. Crossfeed then disables the Twitch checkbox and leaves restreaming to Twitch off, so Twitch doesn't get the stream twice. When OBS sends its stream to stream.place, Crossfeed always counts a live Twitch stream as the restream.

The hold only works while Crossfeed is open. Streaming with Crossfeed closed forwards to every target that's on, as stream.place does by default. Targets Crossfeed held stay off when you close the dashboard, so turn them on at stream.place before streaming without Crossfeed. Crossfeed reads your targets from stream.place every minute, so a change made there shows up in the dashboard.

Check the restream

The go-live checklist includes Restream to Twitch is on when both platforms are connected. It warns you when every target is off or when you have no target, and shows as skipped when Crossfeed couldn't load your targets.

Twitch can take up to a minute to report a new stream as live. The checklist shows Twitch is live as a warning until Twitch reports it. While restreams are held, the check is skipped, since Twitch only starts after you go live.
